At Common Sense Therapy we specialize in treating adults and children with anxiety disorders and mood disorders using evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
Anxiety, depression, and other mood disturbances can impair a child’s ability to function in school or at play, and can cause an adult to become unable to perform daily life functions and tasks. When this happens, it is time to seek professional help.
Much of our approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or “CBT”. The CBT approach to anxiety and depression is based in the “here-and-now”. In most cases, we are less concerned about early childhood causes of present day disturbances than we are about learning ways to overcome anxiety and mood symptoms occurring in the present, and getting in the way of work, school or relationships. Within a few one-hour sessions, the client acquires a number of useful practical tools aimed at rapid return to better functioning. Some of the tools include:
• Self-awareness training
• Relaxation with guided imagery
• Self-hypnosis
• Exposure/response prevention
• Habit Reversal
• Cognitive retraining
• Sleep management
• Nutrition guidance
• Exercise coaching
